Best Hotels in Brooklyn
Are you looking for the best hotels in Brooklyn, New York?
Most visitors to New York City stay in Manhattan, but the borough of Brooklyn is also a great place to stay. Located across the East River from Manhattan, Brooklyn is the city’s most populous borough.
It’s connected to Manhattan by three bridges (Brooklyn Bridge, Manhattan Bridge, and Williamsburg Bridge) as well as by subway and ferry. There are tons of things to do in Brooklyn, and given how easy it is to get to Manhattan, you won’t miss out on anything by staying here on your trip to New York City.
Brooklyn is also incredibly diverse, with 77 distinct neighborhoods.
If you’re wondering which neighborhood to stay in Brooklyn, keep reading! I’ve highlighted some of the best neighborhoods for tourists, as well as my top picks for the best hotels in Brooklyn.
Where to Stay in Brooklyn
Compared to the tourist hub of Manhattan, there aren’t nearly as many hotels in Brooklyn (even though the borough is larger.) So it makes narrowing down a place to stay that much easier.
Brooklyn is also known for being more affordable than Manhattan. A luxury hotel in Brooklyn can be 25% (or more!) when you compare it to a comparable luxury hotel in Manhattan.
For tourists, especially first-time visitors, I recommend staying in a Brooklyn neighborhood that is just across the East River from Manhattan. This will make getting around convenient (since you’ll likely go into Manhattan several times during your trip) and these waterfront neighborhoods offer great views.
Here’s where I recommend staying in Brooklyn:
- DUMBO: Stands for “Down Under Manhattan Bridge Overpass.” Great location on the waterfront between the Brooklyn Bridge and the Manhattan Bridge. Also close to the picturesque Brooklyn Heights neighborhood. Lots of new options when it comes to restaurants and shopping in this area.
- Williamsburg: Once known as a hipster haven in the early 2000s, Williamsburg is definitely more “mainstream” now — but it still retains that cool Brooklyn vibe. This is an amazing place to stay if you want to be surrounded by tons of great restaurants, cafes, bars, and shopping.
- Downtown Brooklyn: Although it’s not right on the waterfront like the other neighborhoods I’ve mentioned, Downtown Brooklyn is a bustling area with a lot going on. It’s close to DUMBO and Brooklyn Heights. Thanks to the subway, it’s also just a quick ride to Manhattan from here.
- Greenpoint: Finally, Greenpoint is a cool waterfront neighborhood that is still a little underrated, like how Williamsburg used to be before it got so popular. Greenpoint is a quieter neighborhood but there’s still a lot going on, and you’ll find lots of trendy restaurants and ships in this area.
Here are my top picks for where to stay in Brooklyn:
- Best luxury hotel: 1 Hotel Brooklyn Bridge
- Best mid-range hotel: Ace Hotel
- Best affordable hotel: The Box House Hotel
