Best Hostels in Paris, France
Are you looking for the best hostels in Paris, France that are actually affordable?
Paris is a notoriously pricy destination, where a basic hotel can easily cost more than $200 per night and a nice hotel can run you over $500 a night all the way up to… well, the sky is really the limit!
As someone who used to live in Paris and has also visited as a tourist many times, I know firsthand how expensive the city can be. But luckily, there are affordable places to stay in Paris if you’re on a budget.
Hostels in Paris are still pretty expensive compared to what you might find in cheaper European cities — paying $30 to $60 a night for a dorm bed is the norm! But if you’re traveling on your own, this is by far the most cost-effective option. If you’re traveling with others, you’re better off looking for an apartment rental on Airbnb or splitting the cost of a cheap hotel room because this will end up being more affordable.
But for solo travelers, hostels are the way to go. It’s also a good way to meet others and make some travel buddies to explore Paris with. Many hostels have tours and activities that you can join too.
Where to Stay in Paris on a Budget
All the hostels below are carefully selected based on location and reviews.
Many Paris hostels are far outside the city center, which isn’t ideal, especially if you only have a limited amount of time to explore Paris. I’ve only included hostels below that have a good location — some are even in my favorite neighborhoods that I recommend for where to stay on your first trip to Paris.
I’ve also carefully noted reviews of hostels and only included the highest-rated ones on this list.
Here are my top picks for the best hostels in Paris, France:
- Best overall location: The People Paris Marais
- Closest to touristy things: Adveniat Paris
- Most affordable: Beau M Hostel
And here’s a full breakdown of the best hostels in Paris.

The People Paris Marais
The People Paris Marais is one of the best hostels in Paris. Located in the trendy Marais neighborhood, this is a centrally located hostel within walking distance of the Bastille (a popular area for nightlife) and just across the river from the Latin Quarter (one of the most beautiful neighborhoods in Paris.)
This is an ideal location for exploring Paris on foot or on the Metro. The cheapest option at this hostel is a mixed-gender 6-bed dorm room. You’ll see a few more hostels from “The People” chain of hostels in Paris, and they all share a similar clean and modern design. This one is in the best location overall.

MIJE MARAIS Hostel
MIJE MARAIS Hostel is another good hostel located in the beautiful and stylish Marais neighborhood. This hostel boasts an incredibly central location that is perfect for exploring Paris. The hostel also has a lot of character, with typical French windows, wooden-beamed ceilings, balconies, and a lovely garden.
The most affordable options here are the single-gender 6-bed dorm rooms. Complaints from guests include the lack of privacy (there are no curtains on the beds) and a lack of working outlets. However, one major perk of staying here is that the hostel offers a free continental breakfast, which is a rarity in Paris.

The People Paris Belleville
Another location of this well-established hostel chain in Paris is The People Paris Belleville. While it’s not as central as the Marais, the prices at this hostel are a bit cheaper. Belleville is also a super cool neighborhood that’s popular with young people and close to the happening Canal Saint-Martin area.
This hostel has a clean and modern design, with good-sized beds and lockers. The cheapest option is a mixed-gender 8-bed dorm room. The People Paris Belleville features a shared lounge, a restaurant and bar, a game room, and a rooftop terrace where you can relax and take in some amazing views of Paris.

Adveniat Paris
If you want to be in the heart of Paris and close to lots of tourist attractions, Adveniat Paris is a great place to stay. This hostel is located in the 8th arrondissement, an extremely swanky neighborhood near the famous Champs-Élysées shopping street. It’s the perfect place to stay near the Eiffel Tower, the Musée d’Orsay, the Louvre, Jardins des Tuileries, and more at a fraction of the price of all the luxury hotels nearby.
This is not a party hostel or a social hostel (it’s run by a Catholic group.) But if you’re looking for a clean, quiet hostel in a great location within walking distance of many of the top tourist attractions in Paris, this is the place to stay. The most cost-effective option here is the single-gender 8-bed dorm room.

Le Village Montmartre
Le Village Montmartre is a charming and cozy hostel located in the Parisian neighborhood of the same name. Montmartre was historically a neighborhood for artists, and it’s home to famous sites like the Basilica of Sacré-Cœur and Moulin Rouge. It’s not super central, but there are plenty of transit options.
The cheapest option at this hostel is a mixed-gender 12-bed dorm room. Some of the rooms offer views of Sacré-Cœur (so cool!) and there’s an awesome outdoor terrace where you can relax and enjoy views of the church and Montmartre. A free breakfast is also included at this hostel, which is a nice extra.

Beau M Hostel
One of the most affordable and still highly-rated hostels in Paris is Beau M Paris. It’s not the most central location (being north of Montmartre in the 18th arrondissement, which is already out of the way of central Paris) but you can easily walk to Montmartre from this hostel or hop on the Metro to explore the city.
The rooms at this hostel are clean and modern, making this a comfortable and calm place to stay while in Paris. The most affordable option at this hostel is a mixed-gender 8-bed dorm room.

The People Paris Bercy
Yet another contender for the best hostels in Paris is The People Paris Bercy, which is the most highly-rated out of this hostel chain. Although Bercy isn’t the most exciting location (being a little outside the center of Paris), it’s still pretty convenient with good Metro and train connections nearby.
Everything at this hostel is very clean and bright, with beds that offer a lot of privacy. The cheapest option is a mixed-gender 8-bed dorm room. This hostel also has a really great rooftop terrace.

3 Ducks Eiffel Tower
Having “Eiffel Tower” in the name of 3 Ducks Eiffel Tower is a little misleading because the hostel is actually about a 25-minute walk from the Parisian icon. But it’s still a solid option if you’re looking for an affordable hostel. It’s located in the safe and pretty 15th arrondissement, and is known for its fun vibe.
The most budget-friendly option at this hostel is the mixed-gender 8-bed dorm room. The beds are comfortable (though lacking in privacy) and there’s an outdoor terrace and bar to hang out at.

The People Paris Nation
I know it seems like “The People” hostels have a monopoly in Paris, but this is the last entry from this hostel chain on this list. The People Paris Nation is another good option if you’re looking for a cheap place to stay. It’s a little outside the center of Paris, but just a short Metro ride away from lots of cool spots.
A major highlight of this hostel is the terrace overlooking Place de la Nation, the perfect place to relax after a busy day of exploring Paris. The cheapest option here is the mixed-gender 8-bed dorm room.

JO&JOE Paris Nation
Finally, one of the top hostels in Paris is JO&JOE Paris Nation. While it’s located in the 20th arrondissement in the furthest reaches of where I’d recommend staying in Paris, it’s still a nice and budget-friendly hostel. And you’re only a Metro ride away from the popular tourist attractions of central Paris.
It’s a comfortable hostel with a bar and a great rooftop terrace where you can hang out and chill. The most affordable option at JO&JOE Paris Nation is a mixed-gender 6-bed dorm room.
