Where to Stay in Oslo, Norway
Wondering where to stay in Oslo? I’ve got you covered! Below, I’ve rounded up some of the best hotels for a great stay in the Norwegian capital, from luxury splurges to budget-friendly options.
Oslo is a really cool city to spend a couple of days. It’s a popular starting point for Norway, and it’s worth spending some time here before you head off to explore the rest of the country. I’d say that two days is really all you need for Oslo — that’s enough time to see most of the highlights and get a feel for the city.
Getting to Oslo from the airport is extremely easy. Just hop on the Flytoget airport train, and you’ll be at Oslo Central Station in about 30 minutes. You can buy tickets for the train from kiosks at the airport before you board, or simply tap to pay with your credit card as you’re going through the gates to the train.
Where I Stayed in Oslo
I stayed at the Comfort Hotel Xpress Central Station on my recent trip to Oslo, and I’d recommend staying here if you are looking for a hotel that is extremely central, affordable, and comfortable.
The hotel is located a three-minute walk from Oslo Central Station, which was super convenient. It’s also right off Karl Johans Gate, the main pedestrian thoroughfare running through Oslo. All of the museums and attractions I wanted to see while in Oslo were within easy walking distance of this hotel.
I had a few issues at this hotel, but they ended up being resolved. First, the WiFi was not working for about 24 hours when I arrived. After this was fixed, it worked very well for the rest of my stay.
Second, the room I was originally booked into was so loud. It faced the front of the hotel and the street, where construction was happening directly across from me. I could also hear the trams rattling by. The next morning, I requested a room change from the reception, and I was moved into a much quieter.
My second room faced the back of the hotel and a central courtyard, so I couldn’t hear any street noise at all. It was also slightly bigger and nicer. If you stay here, I recommend requesting a room facing the back.
Aside from that, I had a good stay at this hotel. As I mentioned above, the location is incredibly convenient to everything. The rooms are pretty basic (there’s not much storage space, and you won’t find a mini fridge or a coffee maker or anything like that), but for a short stay in the city, it’s a good choice.

There’s another stop on the airport train after Oslo Central Station, which is the National Theater. This is another great area to stay in, just a 15-minute walk up Karl Johans Gate, the big pedestrian street in Oslo.

Another great place to stay is Hotel Bristol. This is another five-star hotel with Old World charm in Oslo. It also has a storied history, and is located in an excellent central position in the heart of Oslo.
Guests staying here will enjoy the charming rooms decorated in a traditional style. Breakfast is included each morning during your stay, which is a good value in Oslo, where eating out is so expensive! Hotel Bristol also has an excellent spa, with amenities like an indoor pool, a sauna, and a steam room.
Hotel Christiania Teater
If you’re looking for a gorgeous, character-filled hotel, look no further than Hotel Christiania Teater. This luxury hotel is situated just steps away from Oslo’s National Theater (and the train station there.)

As I mentioned above, Comfort Hotel Xpress Central Station is where I stayed in Oslo, and this is a solid option if you’re looking for a comfortable, budget-friendly stay. You can’t beat the location, which is just a few minutes from Oslo Central Station and close to museums and other tourist attractions.
The rooms here are pretty basic, but clean and comfortable. Be sure to ask for a room facing the back so it’s less noisy. Food and drinks are available from the lobby bar, which doubles as the reception.
Scandic Oslo City
Finally, one more budget-friendly hotel in Oslo is the Scandic Oslo City. This is another hotel that is super convenient to Oslo Central Station, being about a three-minute walk from the entrance.
