Best Luxury Hotels in Barcelona, Spain
Are you looking for the best luxury hotels in Barcelona, Spain?
Read on for my top picks on where to stay, including the best hotels and areas!
Barcelona is one of the most-visited cities in Europe. Located in the northern Catalonia region of Spain, this coastal city is famous for its unique architecture, culture, and Mediterranean atmosphere.
Some of the most famous architectural highlights in the city include Antoni Gaudí’s unique designs like the Sagrada Familia, Park Guell, Güell, Casa Batllo, and Casa Mila. The city is also known for its historic Gothic Quarter, the tree-lined pedestrian street La Rambla, and its lively nightlife and public beaches.
One unique aspect of Barcelona is that both Catalan and Spanish are spoken. Catalan is very similar to Spanish, but it is its own distinct language. However, everyone in Barcelona speaks Spanish too.
Where to Stay in Barcelona
What is the best part of Barcelona to stay in? Barcelona is a large city, so it can be difficult to choose a neighborhood. However, I recommend staying as central as possible for your first trip.
Some of the best neighborhoods for tourists in Barcelona include:
- Gothic Quarter: A historic neighborhood right at the heart of the city perfect for first-time visitors.
- El Raval: Another centrally-located neighborhood with a lively atmosphere.
- La Barceloneta: Be close to Barcelona’s beaches AND the heart of the city center.
- Eixample: The southern part of this neighborhood is close to many tourist attractions.
Barcelona is a safe city, but the one thing to watch out for is pickpockets, even in upscale neighborhoods. Particularly in the most touristy areas, you should always stay alert for pickpockets.
Here are my top picks for where to stay in Barcelona, Spain:
- My personal favorite: Cotton House Hotel
- Best by the beach: W Barcelona
- Best in the Gothic Quarter: Kimpton Vividora Hotel
And here’s a full breakdown of the best luxury hotels in Barcelona.

Cotton House Hotel is where I stayed on my first trip to Barcelona and I highly recommend it! This five-star luxury hotel is located in the heart of Barcelona, just a short walk from Eixample and the Gothic Quarter. It’s the perfect location to base yourself in during your first trip to Barcelona.
I loved the decor and style of this hotel, although the rooms were on the small side (but that’s typical of most hotels in the heart of Barcelona!) I also loved the rooftop swimming pool here. Although I stayed during the winter and didn’t get to use it, it looked like a great spot to hang out during the summer.
