Best Hotels in Alnwick, England
Are you looking for the best hotels in Alnwick, England?
Alnwick, pronounced “Annick,” is a charming, small market town in Northumberland, England. It’s about 45 minutes north of Newcastle and two hours south of Edinburgh by car. You can also take the train to nearby Alnmouth, which is just a 10-minute drive from Alnwick. I absolutely loved my visit to Alnwick.
It’s the perfect destination for a weekend getaway, and there’s so much to do in the town itself, as well as many places to explore nearby. Here are the top things to do in and around Alnwick:
- Visit Alnwick Castle, an imposing Gothic castle that is home to the Duke of Northumberland and was used as a filming location for Harry Potter, Downtown Abbey, and more.
- Stroll around The Alnwick Garden just off the castle grounds. Don’t miss The Poison Garden, where you can take a free tour to learn about the dangerous poisons and their effects.
- Browse for something to read at Barter Books, a massive, cozy Victorian used bookstore.
- Visit Alnmouth, a coastal town that is just a 10-minute drive from Alnwick.
- Explore other nearby destinations like Bamburgh Castle, Warkworth Castle, and the Holy Island of Lindisfarne, all of which are under 45 minutes by car from Alnwick.
