I just returned from six days in Glasgow, and I have plenty of suggestions for where to stay in this vibrant Scottish city, including options for every budget. Although Glasgow is the largest city in Scotland, it’s usually overshadowed by the Scottish capital Edinburgh, which is less than an hour away from Glasgow.
Tourists flock to Edinburgh, but many of them don’t make it to Glasgow. And I think that’s a mistake! Although you could technically visit Glasgow on a day trip from Edinburgh, I really recommend spending at least a couple of days there. You don’t need to stay as long as I did — I was working while I was there, so I wasn’t spending every moment of every day sightseeing — but two full days is definitely worth it.
Glasgow doesn’t have the immediate “wow” factor of Edinburgh, with its hilltop castle and winding Old Town streets and imposing historic architecture. Instead, it’s a lot more subtle in its charms.
There are some beautiful, historic parts of Glasgow, but it’s more Victorian than medieval. There are also a lot of modern parts to the city, and it definitely feels more “lived in” rather than being as touristy as Edinburgh. Glasgow was once a thriving industrial city, then went through a period of decline, followed by urban renewal. It’s a city that is known for its art and culture, as well as its bustling shopping and nightlife.
Overall, it’s a very cool city with lots of things to do, and I definitely recommend visiting.
Where I Stayed in Glasgow
I stayed at Aparthotel Adagio Glasgow Central for six days. Overall, I would definitely recommend it for your Glasgow stay if you want something that is affordable, central, and comfortable.
At this hotel, there are smaller “studio” rooms as well as more spacious “apartment-style” rooms with full kitchens and a nice desk area. I chose the apartment-style room since I was there for a longer stay.
Some of the pros of this hotel:
- It’s very centrally located, just a five-minute walk from Glasgow Central Station and two minutes from the St. Enoch subway station, which was extremely convenient for getting around the city
- My room was clean, comfortable, and well-equipped
- It was super quiet (I was on the ninth floor facing the back of the building)
- The WiFi was fast (super helpful since I was working from the hotel a lot)
- The AC worked well (I like to sleep with it extra cold in the room, even in the winter, and sometimes hotels turn off the AC — not the case here! I was able to blast the AC as much as I wanted)
- There is a laundry room where you can do your laundry for £3 per wash and dry
And now for the cons of this hotel:
- There’s no housekeeping unless you’re staying for eight days or longer, so you have to pick up extra towels and things from the reception — not the vibe I’d expect for a “four-star” hotel
- Amenities in the bathroom were super basic (again, not really a “four-star” standard)
- The overall service here was just so-so and wasn’t anything special
All of this being said, I think this is a good choice if you’re looking for an affordable place to stay in Glasgow. The lack of daily housekeeping was probably the most annoying thing for me, but for shorter stays, it probably wouldn’t be as big a deal. You also really can’t beat the central location of this hotel.

Kimpton Blythswood Square Hotel & Spa
Let’s kick things off with what is by far the best luxury hotel in Glasgow, the Kimpton Blythswood Square Hotel & Spa. Situated in an elegant 19th-century Georgian townhouse, this five-star hotel is definitely at the top of my bucket list for hotels in Glasgow if I were looking to splurge on a luxurious stay.
The rooms are tastefully decorated and well-equipped with all the comforts of home. Amenities here include a top-notch spa, and all guests have access to the thermal experience, which includes an indoor pool, a sauna, a steam room, and more. Another thing not to miss is the afternoon tea at this hotel.
Dakota Glasgow
Another great luxury hotel to consider is the Dakota Glasgow. This chic hotel is located just across Blythswood Square from the previous hotel on this list, and just ten minutes from Glasgow Central Station.
The rooms here are noted for being quiet and comfortable, and this is the perfect place for a relaxed stay in Glasgow. You can easily walk to shopping, museums, restaurants, and more from here.
Native Glasgow
Native Glasgow is a chic hotel, just off the bustling Buchanan Street, a pedestrian-only thoroughfare lined with shops, and steps away from the iconic George Square. This central location is ideal for exploring all that the city has to offer, with many popular tourist attractions located nearby.
Guests staying here can choose from studio-style rooms and apartment-style rooms, which are ideal for longer stays and come with even more space. All rooms and apartments have full kitchens and a dedicated sitting area. Many of the rooms and apartments here also offer great views of the city.
Carlton George Hotel
Carlton George Hotel is another stylish hotel in a central location, right by Buchanan Street and the Queen Street Station. This lovely boutique hotel has comfortable, design-focused rooms. One of the perks you’ll enjoy while staying here is a complimentary minibar in your room, which is a nice added touch!
If you want to enjoy city views, you can book a room with a balcony. Otherwise, you can enjoy a meal or a drink at the hotel’s rooftop restaurant, which offers scenic vistas overlooking Glasgow.
Aparthotel Adagio Glasgow Central
As I mentioned earlier, I stayed at Aparthotel Adagio Glasgow Central for six days on my recent trip, and I found it to be a good base. I’ve already laid out the pros and cons of this hotel at the top of this guide.
Overall, I’d recommend staying here if you’re looking for something that is simple yet comfortable, at a price that won’t break the bank. It’s a great location and convenient for exploring all of Glasgow.
Leonardo Royal Hotel Glasgow
Another nice hotel in Glasgow that is just around the corner from the previous hotel on this list is the Leonardo Royal Hotel Glasgow. This is a great location, just minutes from Glasgow Central Station.
You’re also just a short walk away from museums, shopping, dining, and nightlife. The rooms here are bright and airy, with lots of comfortable touches. Guests also have access to a fitness center at this hotel.
Argyll Hotel
Moving away from hotels in central Glasgow, I wanted to discuss a couple of options in the West End. This is a lovely area of the city where you’ll find the Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum, the University of Glasgow, the Glasgow Botanic Gardens, and more. The Argyll Hotel is a great budget-friendly option.
The rooms here are small and simple, decorated in a traditional style with lots of plaid. But it’s a great location if you want to be in this part of Glasgow, and you can easily just hop on the subway or the bus if you want to get to other parts of the city or to Glasgow Central Station, less than twenty minutes away.
Boutique 50
One more West End hotel I wanted to recommend is Boutique 50. This is a lovely boutique hotel with gorgeous, comfortable rooms. It’s located just steps away from the Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum.
You can also walk along the tranquil waterfront paths by the River Kelvin, or explore the lively area around the historic University of Glasgow. I loved this area, so I think it would be a great place to stay!
