Where to Stay in Chefchaouen, Morocco
Are you wondering where to stay in Chefchaouen, Morocco?
Known as the Blue Pearl, Chefchaouen is a town in the Rif Mountains of northwestern Morocco that is famous because of its buildings painted in shades of blue. The whole town really is that blue.
Aside from its striking color, Chefchaouen is a beautiful town with a compact medina that is fun to explore. There are also several hikes around the town that offer amazing views (like the one above.)
Chefchaouen feels very safe compared to larger cities in Morocco. Although I didn’t visit on my own this time, this is a destination in Morocco I would have felt safe in as a solo female traveler.
Is it worth staying in Chefchaouen? It is definitely worth visiting and staying in Chefchaouen while you’re in Morocco. On my two-week trip to Morocco, Chefchaouen stood out as my favorite destination.
How many days should I spend in Chefchaouen? I recommend spending at least two nights and two full days in Chefchaouen to fully enjoy the atmosphere of this city. While it is possible to visit Chefchaouen on a day trip from Fez or a day trip from Tangier, it will be a long day and you won’t have that much time.
It’s definitely worth staying overnight in Chefchaouen rather than just trying to do a day trip.

Best Hotels in Chefchaouen
Like the rest of Morocco, the best “hotels” in Chefchaouen are actually riads — which are more like small boutique hotels or guesthouses. This is the most authentic type of accommodation in Morocco.
Riads usually feature a small number of rooms situated around a central courtyard. There is often a shared lounge area and sometimes there are other amenities like a swimming pool or a rooftop terrace.
Almost all riads are B&Bs so breakfast each morning is included with your stay.
Here are my top picks for where to stay in Chefchaouen, Morocco:
- Best luxury: Dar Jasmine
- Best mid-range: Dar Echchaouen Maison d’Hôtes & Riad
