Where to Stay in Grand Cayman on a Budget
Grand Cayman? On a budget? It might sound like an oxymoron, since Grand Cayman is known for being an expensive Caribbean island, but if you know where to look, you can find pretty good deals.
This guide will show you where to stay in Grand Cayman on a budget, including my top picks as someone who has visited the island multiple times. I’ve already written a guide to the best luxury hotels in Grand Cayman, but if you are looking to save, not splurge on your trip, then this guide is for you.
Grand Cayman is a British Overseas Territory located in the Caribbean. It’s part of the Cayman Islands, along with the smaller islands of Little Cayman and Cayman Brac. Grand Cayman is the most popular island to visit because it has an international airport with many nonstop flights from North American cities.
I love visiting Grand Cayman because it has incredible beaches (with the standout being Seven Mile Beach) and some of the best scuba diving and snorkeling in the Caribbean, with abundant marine life to discover. It’s also known as one of the safest Caribbean islands, making it a great destination for travelers.
But it’s not known for being one of the most affordable Caribbean islands. Many hotels in Grand Cayman can be quite expensive, but luckily, there are some nice budget-friendly alternatives on the island.
Budget-Friendly Stays in Grand Cayman
On a recent trip to Grand Cayman, I stayed at Governors Village. This is an amazing place to stay if you are looking for clean, spacious, apartment-style accommodations in a great location near Seven Mile Beach.
Governors Village features one-, two-, three-, and four-bedroom apartments at an affordable price. The apartment complex has a swimming pool, a gym, and a cafe that’s open for breakfast and lunch. It’s located just down the street from Governors Beach, a beautiful public beach you can reach in under 10 minutes.
There is also a large supermarket (Cost-U-Less) just next door, and a handful of great restaurants within easy walking distance. (Yoshi Sushi is my favorite and I ate there several times during my stay!)
This is my top recommendation for a budget-friendly stay in Grand Cayman. However, I’ve put together this list to include some other options to help you find the perfect place to stay on your trip.
Here are my top picks for where to stay in Grand Cayman on a budget:
- Best apartment-style: Governors Village
- Best beach access: Sunshine Hotel and Suites

Governors Village
As I already mentioned, I recently stayed at Governors Village, and I really liked it. The apartment was very spacious and comfortable, and I appreciate that every bedroom has its own private bathroom. The location is also great, less than a 10-minute walk from a public access point to the stunning Seven Mile Beach.
The only drawback here is that you won’t find typical hotel amenities if that’s what you’re looking for. This is a better option for travelers looking for a self-catering, apartment-style accommodation.
Sunshine Hotel and Suites
Sunshine Hotel and Suites has been recently renovated and is a great place to stay on a budget if you want to be close to the beach! It’s located less than a 10-minute walk from Seven Mile Beach, and guests here have exclusive access to the Westin’s private beach across the street, which is an excellent perk.
The hotel itself has a swimming pool, a gym, and an on-site restaurant. The updated rooms are modern, and you can choose between suites and studios. All rooms include kitchenette facilities as well.
Hampton by Hilton Grand Cayman
If you’re looking for a nice hotel that will not break your budget, Hampton by Hilton Grand Cayman is a great choice. This hotel, which is located just minutes from the water, is modern and stylish. However, note that the section of Seven Mile Beach that it’s on has been affected by erosion and hurricanes.
This means there isn’t a usable beach right by the hotel, sadly, and you’ll have to travel a bit further away to get to a nice sandy beach. The hotel offers a swimming pool, a gym, and an on-site restaurant. There’s also a free hot breakfast included each morning of your stay, which saves you some money.
The Locale Hotel Grand Cayman
The Locale Hotel Grand Cayman is a great place to stay if you are looking for an affordable hotel that is just minutes away from the beach. The rooms at this hotel are spacious, comfortable, and modern. Not only can you walk to the beach, but you are also surrounded by many restaurants, shops, and activity providers.
Guests staying at this hotel will enjoy a small swimming pool and amenities like free beach kits with beach chairs and beach towels, as well as a free hot breakfast every morning during your stay.
Shangri-La Boutique Bed & Breakfast
Finally, if you are looking for something a little different in Grand Cayman, another affordable place to stay is Shangri-La Boutique Bed & Breakfast. Unlike the other hotels on this list, this B&B is not within walking distance to the beach, but it’s less than a five-minute drive to get to Seven Mile Beach.
Guests staying here will enjoy the intimate atmosphere, luxurious rooms with thoughtful touches, and amenities like a swimming pool and a hot tub. However, you will want a rental car if you are staying here, since you cannot easily walk to the beach or restaurants like you can at the other options on this list.
