Where to Stay Near Normandy Beaches
Are you wondering where to stay near Normandy beaches? I just got back from a trip to Normandy, and it has quickly become one of my favorite regions in France. I did a lot of research for where to stay on this trip, because I knew I wanted to be close to the beaches of Normandy, and if you’re reading this, so do you!
Read on for my top recommendations for the best hotels in Normandy near the beaches.
Chances are, if you’re researching where to stay near Normandy beaches in France, you’re planning a trip to see the World War II D-Day landing beaches. This is what I did too, and it was an amazing trip.
Visiting the D-Day beaches in Normandy is a very special experience.
In addition to seeing the beaches where troops landed, you can also visit moving sites like the Utah Beach Landing Museum, Caen Memorial Museum, Overlord Museum, and Normandy American Cemetery.
While there are day trips from Paris to Normandy that visit a couple of the most important sites, these types of whirlwind excursions just scratch the surface. You really need several full days to spend in Normandy visiting all the sites, which is why staying near the Normandy beaches is a great idea.
⏰ Short on time? This full-day tour from Paris covers the highlights of D-Day Normandy.
What is the closest town to Normandy beaches? The two largest cities near the Normandy beaches are Caen and Bayeux. Both are less than 2.5 hours from Paris by train. However, you cannot reach the smaller towns of the Normandy beaches from either of these cities without having your own car.
I definitely recommend renting a car to explore Normandy on your own. It’s the easiest and most cost-effective way to get around, and driving in rural northern France is not crazy like it is in Paris!
Best Hotels Near Normandy Beaches
What is the best base for Normandy beaches? I recommend staying close to the coast so you have easy access to all the D-Day sites around Normandy. I stayed at a hotel just a five-minute drive from the quaint town of Port-en-Bessin-Huppain, which is a great location to use as a base for exploring Normandy.
The hotel I stayed at was Château La Chenevière, and I highly recommend it for your stay.
This luxury hotel is located in a historic château, a short drive away from Omaha Beach. It’s also a convenient drive away from the other D-Day beaches and museums, so it’s the ideal place to base yourself.
Here are my top picks for where to stay near Normandy beaches:
- Best overall: Château La Chenevière
- Best on the beach: Le Grand Hôtel Cabourg

Château La Chenevière
Château La Chenevière is where I stayed on my trip to Normandy, and I would highly recommend this hotel! As the name suggests, the hotel is located in a historic château dating back to the 18th century. It’s in a great location right in the center of all the Normandy D-Day beaches, so it’s a convenient place to stay.
I stayed here in rainy, cold November, so I wasn’t able to take advantage of all the amenities like the swimming pool or the free bicycle rentals, but everything else was really great at this hotel.
Hôtel Les Villas d’Arromanches
Hôtel Les Villas d’Arromanches is another one of the top hotels near Normandy beaches. It’s located in Arromanches-les-Bains, the town where the British landed at Gold Beach on D-Day.
This historic hotel is in a building dating back to the 19th century, and it offers a pretty garden and courtyard where you can enjoy the sun during the warmer months. There’s also a swimming pool. This is a good place to stay that is within easy driving distance of all the D-Day beaches and museums in Normandy.
Le Grand Hôtel Cabourg
If you want to stay right on the beach, Le Grand Hôtel Cabourg is an excellent hotel. This luxury hotel is located in Cabourg, a seaside town in Normandy. It’s a bit further of a drive to the D-Day beaches (you’re looking at 30 minutes to 1.5 hours of driving time), but it’s a great hotel with lots of amenities.
Guests will enjoy access to a private beach, so if you’re visiting during the summer, this may be a big perk. Many rooms also have private balconies and sea views, which makes for a unique experience.
Hôtel Tardif Noble Guest House
Hôtel Tardif Noble Guest House is another one of the best hotels near Normandy beaches. It’s located in Bayeux, one of the largest towns close to the beaches. Bayeux is also famous for the Bayeux Tapestry, which tells the story of the Norman conquest of England in 1066. This is a must-visit when in Bayeux.
The hotel itself is in an 18th-century private mansion located in the former botanical garden of Bayeux. It’s the perfect boutique hotel if you want to be convenient to all the D-Day beaches and museums. For guests visiting during the summer, you can enjoy the hotel’s spacious gardens and swimming pool.
Hôtel d’Argouges
Hôtel d’Argouges is another hotel located in Bayeux. This is a really convenient location because most D-Day sites are within 20 to 45 minutes by car, making this a great place to base yourself in Normandy.
This is a historical hotel in a beautiful 18th-century building. It offers quaint guest rooms and a lovely garden. This is a more affordable option in Bayeux that still provides plenty of historic charm.
Hôtel le Lion d’Or
Hôtel le Lion d’Or is one more option for hotels in Bayeux if you want to be close to all Normandy beaches. It’s also right in the heart of Bayeux, close to museums, restaurants, and other things to do.
The hotel is in a former 18th-century post office, a unique location. It offers cozy and comfortable guestrooms in a historic setting, and it’s a great place to base yourself for your trip to Normandy.
Les 4 Vents Pointe du Hoc
Finally, Les 4 Vents Pointe du Hoc is a really unique place to stay in Normandy. This bed & breakfast is located right on the coast, overlooking the English Channel with truly spectacular views you won’t find anywhere else. You’re also just a short drive away from Omaha Beach and Pointe du Hoc.
Since this is a B&B, breakfast is included each morning during your stay. You can choose to eat outside in the garden, where you’ll be able to gaze out at the sea for a unique experience.
