Best Golden Triangle Tour Packages
Are you looking for the best Golden Triangle tour packages for exploring India?
I’ve done all the research for you and compiled my top picks for the best tours below! Recently, I visited India for the first time to attend a close friend’s wedding. Before the wedding (an extravagant multi-day affair) began, a group of friends and I wanted to spend some time traveling around India.
Since the wedding was in Delhi and we were arriving in Delhi, we decided that a tour of the Golden Triangle would be the best way to spend several days before the wedding festivities kicked off.
India’s Golden Triangle refers to the three cities of Delhi, Agra, and Jaipur. If you look at a map, the cities form the rough shape of a triangle, with Delhi as the top point and Agra and Jaipur as the base points.
The Golden Triangle is a great introduction to India, and perfect for visitors who are short on time. Here’s a quick overview of what you can expect in each destination on the Golden Triangle route:
- Delhi: The bustling capital of India, home to amazing sites including the Qutab Minar, Humayun’s Tomb, India Gate, the Jama Masjid mosque, and the maze-like markets of Chandni Chowk.
- Agra: Most famous for the Taj Mahal, one of the Seven Wonders of the World. However, you also shouldn’t miss the impressive Agra Fort and Itimad ud-Daulah, or the “Baby Taj,” while in Agra.
- Jaipur: The beautiful “Pink City” of India, capital of the state of Rajasthan. This stunning city is home to numerous palaces, including the City Palace, Amber Palace, and Hawa Mahal.
Visiting all three of these cities is a classic route for tourists in India.
Why Book a Tour Package?
I’m usually a big proponent of traveling independently, and I don’t typically book tours when I travel. The exception to this is in destinations where a tour will greatly enhance my comfort and enjoyment, and reduce stress and hassle. For example, I traveled on a group tour in Egypt as a solo female traveler.
India is a country where it’s certainly possible to travel independently, but it’s so much easier to book a tour. Tour packages can also be incredibly affordable and offer a really good value for your money.
To me, it seemed like a no-brainer that my group of friends (myself plus four other girls) would book a tour package for the Golden Triangle. Tour packages typically include a driver who will be with you the whole time, a guide in each city you visit, and hotels (with included breakfast) for each day. Exclusions are other meals (lunch and dinner), entry fees to tourist sites, and gratuities for your guides and drivers.
Traveling in India can be hectic, and it’s nice not to have to worry about the logistics of getting from place to place on your own. Having a guide is also extremely helpful at tourist attractions in India.
Especially for female travelers, you need to be prepared for some unwanted attention and harassment in India. Having a guide helps to keep some of that at bay and makes for a better experience overall.
It’s also affordable. Since established tour companies can negotiate preferential rates with hotels, you’ll often find that the cost of a tour is the same or even slightly less than doing the trip on your own.
Which Tour Company Should You Use?
I’ll be totally honest, there are hundreds of tour operators offering Golden Triangle tours in India, and they’re all pretty much the same. I recommend using Viator or GetYourGuide to book your Golden Triangle tour rather than booking directly, because it’s the same price but you’ll have more flexibility.
Most tours booked on Viator or GetYourGuide don’t require you to pay in advance or pay a deposit, and you can also cancel or reschedule your tour up to 24 hours in advance without paying a penalty.
You’ll also notice that many Golden Triangle tours are private. I highly recommend booking a private tour if you’re traveling with a group. It’s very affordable as long as you have two or more people.
If you’re a solo traveler, you might prefer to book a group tour if you want to be with other travelers. It’s possible to book a private tour too, but you’ll have to pay a single supplement (doubling the price.)
For groups of two or more, a private tour is definitely the way to go. My friends and I had a big, comfortable ten-seat van and a driver just for the five of us, and a private guide who met us in each city.
You’ll also need to decide how many days you want to do. The shortest Golden Triangle tours are three days and two nights, while longer tours can be up to a week. We did a four-day, three-night tour.
If I hadn’t had some additional time in Delhi, I would have opted for a five-day, four-night tour. If you have more time, a longer tour is better, because you can break up the transit time between cities more. There’s also plenty to do in each destination of the Golden Triangle, so you won’t run out of things to do!
The Tour Package I Booked (Highly Recommend!)
This is the exact tour package I booked for myself and my friends with Crystal Holidays.
As I mentioned, this was a completely private tour with private transportation and private guides in each city. This four-day, three-night tour also included five-star hotels with an included breakfast.
We paid $317 per person. The tour company recommends having an additional $60 in cash to pay the entrance fees for the sites in each city. We spent slightly less than this because we skipped one spot.
You should also budget around $10 to $15 per meal for meals not included in the tour. We tipped each of our day guides $15 total (this is on the high end of what’s recommended) and $50 total for our driver (again, on the high end.) We tipped a little more since we had five people contributing to the tip.
In total, the cost was roughly $450 per person, which felt like a good value to me.
If you want to spend less, you can choose the tour option for three-star or four-star hotels. We opted for five-star hotels, which were all nice enough, but not on the super luxurious end of five stars.
The tour starts in Delhi with pick-up from your hotel (or the airport) and a full morning and afternoon of sightseeing, before driving to Agra in the evening. The next morning, you visit the Taj Mahal and do more sightseeing in Agra, then drive to Jaipur. You have a full day of sightseeing in Jaipur, and the following morning, you depart early for Delhi and arrive back there in the afternoon.

Other Golden Triangle Tour Packages
Looking for other Golden Triangle tour packages? Here are some of the best ones I found:
1. Three-Day, Two-Night Golden Triangle Tour
Short on time? This three-day, two-night tour includes just one night in Agra and one night in Jaipur. It condenses the timeline of your Golden Triangle experience, but it could be a good option for you.
The tour includes hotel accommodation (your choice of three-star, four-star, or five-star hotels) with breakfast, a private driver and transportation, and a private guide in each of the three cities.
2. Five-Day, Four-Night Golden Triangle Tour
If you have more time, then a five-day, four-night Golden Triangle tour like this one would be my recommendation. This includes one night in Delhi, one night in Agra, and two nights in Jaipur.
This is what I would have done if I hadn’t had extra time in Delhi on my own. This tour includes more sightseeing in Delhi, including both New Delhi and Old Delhi, both of which are worth seeing.
Similar to the other tours, this one includes hotels, breakfast, a driver, and guides.
3. Six-Day, Five-Night Golden Triangle Tour
One more option is the six-day, five-night Golden Triangle tour. This is ideal if you’re looking for a more leisurely pace, and it includes two nights in Delhi, one night in Agra, and two nights in Jaipur.
With this tour, you will be able to choose if you’d like to stay in three-star, four-star, or five-star hotels. All hotels include breakfast. You’ll also have a private driver and private guides in each of the three cities.
4. Four-Day, Three-Night Golden Triangle + Ranthambore Tour
If you’re looking for something a little different, a four-day, three-night Golden Triangle and Ranthambore tour might be perfect for you. Ranthambore National Park is one of the best national parks in India, and it’s located south of Agra and Jaipur. It’s an amazing place to see Bengal tigers in the wild.
This tour covers the highlights of the Golden Triangle, but also includes a visit to the national park. You’ll spend one night in Agra, one night at the Ranthambore National Park, and one night in Jaipur.
5. Seven-Day, Six-Night Golden Triangle + Varanasi Tour
One final option if you have more time and want to go beyond the typical Golden Triangle route, is a seven-day, six-night tour like this one that combines the Golden Triangle and the holy city of Varanasi.
Varanasi is located southwest of Agra in the state of Uttar Pradesh. It’s a mystical city on the Ganges River that is definitely worth visiting (it’s on my list when I go back to India!) for a couple of days.
This adventurous tour includes one night in Delhi, one night in Jaipur, one night in Agra, an overnight train journey to Varanasi, one night in Varanasi, and an overnight train journey back to Delhi.
