Where to Stay in Chania, Crete
Are you wondering where to stay in Chania, Crete? You’re in the right place!
Chania is a beautiful city in Crete, the largest of the Greek islands. Located on the northwestern side of the island, it’s the second largest city in Crete after the capital Heraklion. With a large international airport that has direct flights from Athens and the rest of Europe, Chania is a popular vacation destination.
Known for its Old Venetian Port, walled historic center, and charming pedestrian streets lined with shops and cafes, Chania is a great place to base yourself on a trip to Crete. There are excellent beaches just a short drive away, although in the Old Town itself, you won’t find any beaches — just the harbor.
Many people prefer to stay in Chania because it’s such a lively city and has a great atmosphere, especially in the Old Town. If you just want to relax on the beach all day, it might not be the best place to stay (although I do have a couple of recommendations for beach resorts close to Chania at the end of this list!)
But if you want to be in the heart of the action and you don’t mind driving, taking the bus, or even taking a boat to get to excellent beaches, Chania is the perfect place to stay on your trip to Crete.
Best Hotels in Chania, Crete
As I mentioned, the Old Town is a great area to stay in because it’s extremely walkable, with many streets that are pedestrian-only and have tons of restaurants, cafes, bars, and shops along them. There are several interesting historical sites in Chania. The harbor is also a good place to catch boat tours.
Another area to stay in Chania is just outside the Old Town, where there are several beaches. The beaches near Chania are nice, but the best beaches in Crete are located a little further away. Still, if you want to be close to the Old Town of Chania and still stay on the beach, this could be a good option for you.
