Best Luxury Hotels in Rome, Italy
Are you looking for the best luxury hotels in Rome, Italy?
This ultimate guide will show you the best places to stay in Rome for a luxurious experience. I’ve spent several weeks in Rome on various trips, and it’s a city that has really grown on me over time.
Known as the Eternal City, Rome is packed full of history.
Before I get into where to stay in Rome, here are the top things you must do in Rome:
- Take a guided tour of the Colosseum, the Roman Forum, and Palatine Hill to learn all about the history of these iconic ancient landmarks from an expert. (Go early in the morning!)
- Throw a coin into the Trevi Fountain for luck (it means you’ll return to Rome one day!)
- Since Rome is such a big city, try a hop-on, hop-off sightseeing bus to get an overview.
- Stroll through the Villa Borghese, a large park, and visit the Borghese Gallery and Museum.
- Visit the Vatican Museums and the Sistine Chapel (join a guided tour to learn more.)
- See the inside of St. Peter’s Basilica in Vatican City.
- Eat your way through the trendy Trastevere neighborhood on a food tour.
Now let’s talk about where to stay, and the best luxury hotels in Rome!
Where to Stay in Rome
One important thing to know about Rome before you go is that it’s a large city. Being the capital of Italy, it’s a massive sprawling metropolis and not a small and walkable city like Florence.
There are places you can stay in Rome where you’ll be within walking distance of many popular attractions, but you’ll still need to use public transit (Rome has a Metro system and a bus system) or take a taxi or Uber to get to other places. Here are the top areas I recommend staying in when you go to Rome:
- Pantheon & Piazza Navona: Great area to stay for first-time visitors to Rome within easy walking distance of many of the city’s major sights. Lively and central location in Rome.
- Piazza di Spagna: Another good area who visitors who are looking to stay in a great location in Rome close to many sights. There are many luxury hotels in this upscale part of the city.
- Trastevere: A fantastic neighborhood that is close to the historic center of Rome and known for its lively restaurant and nightlife scene. This is a very charming area to stay in.
- Vatican & Prati: The area around Vatican City is quieter and more residential, making it a great area to stay in if you want to escape the hustle and bustle of the more touristy parts of Rome.
- Roma Termini: If you want a convenient location in Rome, the neighborhood around the Roma Termini train station is a good option. It’s centrally located close to many major attractions.
Here are my top picks for where to stay in Rome, Italy:
- Best views: Hotel Palazzo Manfredi
- Best amenities: Rome Cavalieri, A Waldorf Astoria Hotel
- Best for couples: Baglioni Hotel Regina

Sina Bernini Bristol
Sina Bernini Bristol is where I stayed on my most recent trip to Rome, and I would recommend this hotel. It’s in a great location close to the Trevi Fountain, the Spanish Steps, and lots of shopping and dining.
However, I wasn’t totally impressed with the rooms at this hotel. I stayed in two different rooms (a standard room and a Junior Suite), and both felt a little more scuffed-up and tired than I would have expected. If you can get this hotel at a good rate, then it’s an option, but I do think there are better luxury hotels in Rome. Overall, I did enjoy my stay here, and you really can’t beat the location.
