Best Hotels in Hydra, Greece
Are you looking for the best hotels in Hydra, Greece?
Hydra is one of my favorite Greek islands. It’s more laidback and less crowded than somewhere like Mykonos or Santorini so it’s the perfect place to go for a relaxing Greek island getaway.
Although Hydra is about 25 square miles, it has a permanent population of just 2,100 people. Almost all of the population of Hydra is concentrated in the main town. The most unique thing about Hydra is that there are no cars on the island at all — they’ve been banned since the 1950s (along with bicycles!)
That means your only options for getting around in Hydra are walking, riding a donkey, or traveling by boat. Some beaches and coves around the island are only accessible from the water anyway.
How many days should I spend in Hydra? I would recommend spending two or three days in Hydra. It’s a small place and there isn’t much to “do” but it’s a great place to relax and enjoy the atmosphere.
How do you get to Hydra? The only way to get to Hydra is by boat. There’s no airport on the island. You can easily get to Hydra by ferry from Athens in just 1.5 hours, making it easily accessible.
Where to Stay in Hydra
As I mentioned above, most of the action in Hydra is concentrated in the main town. Almost all of the hotels in Hydra are located in the main town, with the exception of a couple of more remote resorts.
I am going to highlight those options in case you’re looking for somewhere to stay where you can get away from it all, but otherwise, I would recommend choosing a hotel that is located in town for convenience.
Hotels in Hydra are typically on the simpler side, although there are a couple of luxury options too. This isn’t the place to go if you want to splurge on an extremely fancy resort though — that’s not the vibe of Hydra.
Here are my top picks for where to stay in Hydra, Greece:
- Best beach resort: Mandraki Beach Resort

Hydroussa Hotel Hydra
One of the best places to stay in Hydra is Hydroussa Hotel. This is a comfortable mid-range hotel with plenty of upscale and modern touches, and the design of the property feels very traditionally Greek.
The hotel is located right in the heart of Hydra Town, which is the main hub of activity on the island. You’ll be close to plenty of restaurants, shops, beach bars, and other things to do. This is a great place to stay on your trip to Hydra. Complimentary breakfast is also served in the hotel dining room each morning.
Hotel Leto Hydra
Hotel Leto Hydra is another good place to stay. This hotel has a very convenient location for exploring the rest of town, or you can just relax and enjoy the view from your room’s private terrace.
The rooms at Hotel Leto Hydra are tastefully decorated with all the comforts of home that you would expect. A complimentary breakfast is included each morning during your stay at this hotel.
Cactus Hydra
If you’d prefer to stay in an apartment rather than a hotel, Cactus Hydra is a great option. These great holiday apartments have a fun and fresh style, and you’ll be welcome personally upon arrival.
You will have plenty of space because the apartments are equipped with full kitchens and living areas, as well as unique touches like private terraces where you can enjoy views of the garden or the town.
La Vie Hydra Luxury Suites
La Vie Hydra Luxury Suites is another highly rated option when it comes to the best hotels in Hydra. You’ll enjoy a great location in the center of town, and some rooms even offer direct views of the sea.
Some of the rooms at La Vie Hydra Luxury Suites also offer extra space such as a private terrace. You can also book a room that includes a kitchenette if you want to prepare food for yourself sometimes.
Onar Hydra
Onar Hydra is an excellent place to stay if you want spectacular views. This hotel is located in the heart of the main town and offers amazing views over the port, the sea, and the rest of Hydra Town.
You’re also very close to lots of restaurants, beach bars, swimming spots, and more things to do. The rooms are airy and bright, and some have private balconies. There’s also a communal terrace with a great view.
Bratsera Boutique Hotel
Bratsera Boutique Hotel is one of the best hotels in Hydra if you want a swimming pool! It’s one of the only hotels in the main town to offer this perk, which you’ll definitely appreciate on a hot summer day.
Aside from the swimming pool, there’s also a fitness center. Free breakfast each morning is another nice amenity you’ll have when staying at this hotel. Some of the rooms also have private balconies and terraces.
Douskos Port House
For the last hotel option that’s in town, we have Douskos Port House. This is a really cool place to stay because it’s located right on the port in the center of town, with great views of the water and Hydra Town.
Some of the rooms here have private balconies so you can wake up and enjoy a cup of coffee as you watch the boats in the port. Complimentary breakfast is also included each morning during your stay.
Four Seasons Hydra Luxury Suites
Moving away from Hydra Town, a great place to stay on the island of Hydra is Four Seasons Hydra Luxury Suites. Remember, there are no cars (or any types of vehicles) on Hydra, so in order to get to town from this hotel, you will have to walk (it’s a 45-minute walk along the coast) or take a boat ride.
Luckily, Four Seasons Hydra Luxury Suites offers free boat transfers to and from the port. The hotel also has a fabulous private beach area, but no swimming pool. Free breakfast is included each morning during your stay, and there’s also an on-site restaurant where you can enjoy lunch and dinner.
Mandraki Beach Resort
If you really want to splurge on your trip to Hydra, Mandraki Beach Resort is an amazing place to stay. This luxury resort is located a 40-minute walk or a quick boat ride away from the main town. This hotel also provides a free boat shuttle to and from the port in Hydra Town, which runs every half hour.
This hotel has stunning rooms, and some of the suites even include private plunge pools on your massive private terrace. There’s also a great private beach where you can relax and soak up the sun or swim in the sea. Free breakfast is provided, and there’s a delicious on-site restaurant for lunch and dinner.
