Ios is one of the most beautiful islands in Greece. I’ve now visited four Greek islands, and after spending a week in Ios, I can say that it’s one I would definitely return to in the future.

When I visited Ios, it was late May and early June, so the summer season had not started yet. It was also 2021, so tourism in Greece was WAY down due to the country’s travel restrictions. This meant that I visited Ios during a very quiet time, and ironically enough, did not experience any of the vibrant nightlife the island is famous for. However, I learned there’s a lot to do in Ios beyond nightlife!

I loved renting an ATV so I could explore the island and its many stunning beaches. I also liked walking around the whitewashed town of Chora, which is the island’s central hub of activity.

How Long Should You Stay in Ios, Greece For?

I spent a full week in Ios, which was amazing! But you definitely don’t need that much time.

For a relaxing beach getaway, I’d recommend spending at least three or four full days in Ios. This will give you plenty of time to explore the island and discover its best hidden beaches.

How Do You Get to Ios?

Ios does not have an airport, which is why the island has avoided as much mass tourism as nearby islands like Santorini and retained its stunning natural beauty. It’s only accessible by ferry.

The fastest ferry from Athens takes just over four hours to reach Ios, while the larger, slower ferries can take around six hours (I opted for the slower Blue Star Ferry and found it to be very nice!)

You can also take direct ferries from several other Greek islands including Santorini, Mykonos, Naxos, Paros, and Crete, which is a good option if you are island-hopping and visiting several destinations.

Where to Stay in Ios

Most hotels in Ios are located in and around Chora, the island’s main town. This is the most developed area of the island where you’ll find lots of restaurants, shops, activities, and nightlife.

I stayed at Levantes Ios Boutique Hotel, which I highly recommend. I loved this hotel! It’s about an 8-minute drive from the port and the main town, and they offered a €5 shuttle to and from the port.

The hotel is just a 5-minute walk from Mylopotas Beach, one of the best on the island.

Levantes Ios Boutique Hotel

Levantes Ios Boutique Hotel is where I stayed for a week in Ios, and I would highly recommend it! I loved this hotel. It was luxurious yet offered great value. I loved the all-white aesthetic of the rooms.

It’s just a short walk down to the beach, and some rooms have beach views. There’s a great pool and lounge area, and some rooms even have their own private plunge pools. Mine did not, but it did have a private balcony. I also loved the delicious complimentary breakfast served every morning at this hotel.

Relux Ios Hotel

Relux Ios Hotel is another one of the best hotels in Ios. This luxury hotel is just a couple minutes away from the port on foot, making it very convenient. There are tons of restaurants and shops nearby.

Yialos Beach is also just a 5-minute walk from this hotel. If you don’t feel like relaxing at the beach, you can relax at the hotel’s swimming pool. Complimentary breakfast is also included with your stay.

Hide Out Suites

Hide Out Suites is a great luxury accommodation in Ios. It’s located 5 minutes from Mylopotas Beach, a great beach that also has a few restaurants, bars, and shops. This is the perfect place to stay if you’re looking for more privacy thanks to its private villas. Each villa comes with its own private swimming pool.

This is a romantic place to stay that would be perfect for couples. The hotel offers free breakfast every morning, as well as other amenities including a fitness center and a spa center guests can use.

Olga is an affordable, stylish hotel located in the heart of Chora, Ios’ main town. It’s less than 10 minutes from the port on foot, and just a quick 5-minute walk from the popular Yialos Beach.

The hotel offers comfortable rooms, some with private balconies and sea views. There’s a swimming pool and a hot tub, and a complimentary breakfast is included each morning during your stay here.

Kritikakis Village Hotel is located right in Chora, less than 5 minutes from the port and Yialos Beach. It’s a great hotel in a very convenient location in Ios. This hotel is couples and family only, meaning any children must be accompanied by parents, and all adults guests must be at least 23 years old.

The rooms here are studio-style, giving you some extra living space and a kitchenette. All rooms also have private balconies, and there’s a swimming pool at the hotel for guests to enjoy.

Far Out Hotel & Spa

Far Out Hotel & Spa is located near Mylopotas Beach, one of the main party hotspots in Ios. Its sister hotel (mentioned below) is known for throwing huge parties. However, this hotel is slightly further from the action, making it a good choice for those who want to get some rest and enjoy the amenities.

The hotel is a 7-minute walk from the beach, and offers amenities including a swimming pool, a hot tub, a sauna, and a fitness center. Spa services like massages can also be arranged. Breakfast is included.
