Best Hotels in Ischia, Italy
Are you looking for the best hotels in Ischia, Italy?
Ischia is a beautiful and lush island in the Bay of Naples. It’s a true hidden gem and still hasn’t caught on in popularity with American travelers in the way that nearby Capri and the Amalfi Coast have.
I spent nearly a week in Ischia with two of my friends and it was a highlight of our five weeks in Italy. I actually preferred Ischia to the Amalfi Coast! Ischia is famous for its thermal hot springs, the striking ancient Castello Aragonese (pictured above), lush gardens like Giardini la Mortella, and beaches.
How do you get to Ischia? There is no airport in Ischia, but it’s easy to reach the island by ferry from Naples. The fast ferry takes just 50 minutes, while the slower ferry takes around 1.5 hours.
How many days should you spend in Ischia? I recommend spending at least 3 full days in Ischia so that you can cover all the highlights, but even longer if you want to enjoy a more relaxing trip.
Where to Stay in Ischia
Ischia is a fairly large island, and one of my biggest regrets from my trip is not having a rental car. Instead, my friends and I had to rely on the bus system (which runs in a loop around the island) and walking. We were about 30 minutes on foot from Forio and 25 minutes from Lacco Ameno, two great towns in Ischia.
Forio is larger and has a lot going on, while Lacco Ameno is more laidback.
You may also consider staying in or near Ischia Porto (a lively large town on the island by the port), Casamicciola Terme (another calm, laidback town), or Sant’Angelo (which has a quaint village feel.)
If you don’t have a car, the best place to stay in Ischia is Ischia Porto or Forio because they’re larger towns and the ferry makes stops in both places. However, I highly recommend getting a rental car for your stay in Ischia if you can. It will make exploring the island so much easier and allow you to be more flexible!
Here are my top picks for where to stay in Ischia, Italy:
