Best Hotels in Monaco
Are you looking for the best hotels in Monaco? Read on for my top picks!
Monaco is the second-smallest country in the world after Vatican City. This little principality has a total area of just 0.81 square miles and it’s fully surrounded by France on all sides. But despite its small size, Monaco is its own independent country, and a constitutional monarchy with a reigning prince.
The population of Monaco is just 36,000, but due to the country’s tiny size, it actually makes it the most densely populated country in the world! Located along the Mediterranean on the French Riviera, Monaco is just a 30-minute train ride from Nice, France (which is also where the nearest airport is.)
If you’re looking for hotels in Monaco, there are quite a few options despite its small size.
But first, let’s talk about whether or not you should stay in Monaco.
Is Staying in Monaco Worth It?
I have been to Monaco several times, but only as a day trip while staying elsewhere on the French Riviera. It’s absolutely worth visiting, but you don’t have to stay in Monaco by any means.
Since it’s so small, you can easily visit on a day trip. If you just want to see Monaco as part of a wider trip to the French Riviera, I would recommend staying somewhere else, like the city of Nice or a smaller French Riviera town like Antibes, Villefranche-sur-Mer, or Menton (three of my personal favorite towns.)
You can easily hop on the train and visit Monaco on a day trip from any of these places.
However, if you have a reason to stay in Monaco (like attending the Monaco Grand Prix or another event, for example) you should definitely check out the top hotels in Monaco listed below.
And you’ve probably already guessed it, but Monaco is not the destination for budget travelers!
Where to Stay in Monaco
Most hotels in Monaco are located in the Monte Carlo neighborhood, which is where you’ll find high-end shopping, lavish hotels with stunning Mediterranean views, and the iconic Monte Carlo Casino.
My other favorite area in Monaco is Monaco City, which is the historic Old Town where the Prince’s Palace is located. However, there aren’t many accommodation options in this part of Monaco.
Here are my top three picks for where to stay in Monaco:
- Most iconic: Hôtel de Paris Monte-Carlo
- Best luxury: Hôtel Hermitage Monte-Carlo
- Best value: Columbus Hotel Monte-Carlo

Hôtel de Paris Monte-Carlo
Hôtel de Paris Monte-Carlo is one of the most famous hotels in Monaco. If you want to be in the center of it all, you can’t go wrong with this five-star luxury hotel right in the midst of flashy Casino Square.
This hotel offers unparalleled luxury from the moment you arrive. The rooms are opulently appointed and the amenities are unmatched. The hotel boasts an incredibly luxurious spa and wellness center where you can feel rejuvenated, or you can dine at the hotel’s three Michelin-starred restaurant.
Fairmont Monte Carlo
The Fairmont Monte Carlo is another one of the best hotels in Monaco. It’s perfectly located just steps away from Casino Square, and all rooms offer private balconies, some with waterfront views.
Guests staying at this hotel will enjoy amenities like a luxurious spa and fitness center, a rooftop swimming pool, and a rooftop terrace with views of the Circuit de Monaco. There are several restaurants on-site at this hotel, including Nobu, where you can enjoy delicious sushi prepared by world-class chefs.
Le Méridien Beach Plaza
Despite the entire principality of Monaco being on the Mediterranean, there’s really only one true beach in Monaco. And Le Méridien Beach Plaza has a slice of that beach, offering private beach access to guests.
This hotel also has an indoor and an outdoor swimming pool, as well as a fitness center and a sauna. It’s a little further away from the heart of the action, about 20 minutes from Casino Square.
Hôtel Hermitage Monte-Carlo
Hôtel Hermitage Monte-Carlo is among the most famous and luxurious hotels in Monaco. This opulent five-star hotel is just off Casino Square, steps away from all the luxury shopping you could ever want.
This hotel is owned by the same owners as Hôtel de Paris Monte-Carlo, so the hotels share a lot of amenities. At Hôtel Hermitage Monte-Carlo, you can enjoy access to the pool, spa, and wellness center.
Boutique Hotel Miramar
If you’re looking for somewhere a bit more low-key in Monaco, check out Boutique Hotel Miramar. Although I would hardly call it budget-friendly, it’s definitely one of the more affordable hotels in Monaco if you are looking for something that is good value and still in the center of all the action.
While this hotel doesn’t have any flashy amenities like a swimming pool or a spa, it does offer comfortable and stylish guest rooms, some with private balconies and views overlooking the port and the sea.
Monte-Carlo Bay Hotel & Resort
Monte-Carlo Bay Hotel & Resort is on the far end of Monaco and offers a tranquil respite right on the Mediterranean. This hotel has a great indoor and outdoor pool and private swimming area.
All rooms have private balconies, and many offer spectacular views overlooking the sea. There’s also a spa and a fitness center, and three on-site restaurants (including one with two Michelin stars!)
Columbus Hotel Monte-Carlo
Columbus Hotel Monte-Carlo is one of the best value hotels in Monaco that is not quite as pricy as many of the others. Part of the Curio Collection by Hilton, this nice waterfront hotel is located on the far side of Monaco closer to the Prince’s Palace and the Old Town and a bit further away from Casino Square.
Most rooms at this hotel have private terraces overlooking the sea or the Princess Grace Rose Garden. There’s also an outdoor swimming pool and a complimentary shuttle you can take within Monaco.
Port Palace
Finally, one of the best hotels in Monaco is the Port Palace. This is another hotel that doesn’t have a ton of fancy amenities, but it’s still a very nice place to stay in a central location by the port in Monaco.
Guests staying at this hotel will enjoy the proximity to shopping, dining, and entertainment in Monaco. Some of the rooms at this hotel have private balconies offering great views overlooking the port.
